At last we’ve found the time to update our blog again. As we’ve both been quite busy with work and family life, the blog and Facebook have unfortunately taken a back seat. To everyone who’s been waiting for updates here, we’d like to offer a big “sorry”. We hope you’ll forgive us. Because, of course, our projects have continued regardless.
First, regarding our Christmas campaign: we were delighted by the many donations and implemented ‘Sport and Play’ projects in February this year. A total of 150 new footballs were provided for children’s football teams in Imizamo Yethu, including the ‘Rising Stars’. Now, thanks to your donations, over 300 children in the township can finally train properly. With an average of three old balls for every 30 children, this simply wasn’t possible before. Today, the little ones are enjoying more exercise, active play and fun amidst the difficult daily life of the township. Five balls also went to our nursery children at the Noluthando Day Care Centre.
As the football teams are mainly made up of boys, we will also be supporting a netball team in Imizamo Yethu. Netball is a type of basketball that is mostly played by girls and women. We are planning to provide kit sets for the women’s and youth teams. More information and photos will follow shortly.
Regardless of the Christmas campaign, the Noluthando Day Care Centre continues to receive its full monthly food rations from us. We have found a sponsor here who continues to fund our monthly purchases for the 45 children – thank you very much for that!
